Wings of Freedom tour comes to Southwest GA

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Wings of Freedom Tour arrived at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Monday afternoon and will run through Wednesday. The tour will make a stop in Valdosta from Wednesday through Friday.

The tour features the B-17 fighting fortress and B-24 liberator aircrafts. Both were essential to success during the second World War.

"They were used basically to bomb the infrastructure of the axis powers and destroy their war making capabilities," said volunteer pilot Mack McCauley. "These two bombers actually won the war."

According to chief pilot Jim Harley, there is only one B-24 liberator left out of the 18,000 that were built and only six B-17's left flying.

World War Two veterans are admitted with no charge. It costs $12 for adults and $6 for children.
