BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A Beaufort County school bus driver died Monday morning after driving to two elementary schools and finishing her route, according to a school district official.

Tammy Grant, a special education bus driver, asked for assistance getting off the bus because she said she did not feel well.

Grant died in the parking lot from an apparent heart attack, but no cause of death has been confirmed.

Grant was a 20-year veteran of the district, driving for Whale Branch elementary School and the James J. Davis Early Childhood Center.

Brenda Hunt, district director of special education, said, "What special education bus drivers do each and every day, they are the first ones to see those kids in the morning and the last one in the afternoon. They really do make an impact.
