ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Eddie Trudge, the Worth County man who has been fighting an incurable form of lung disease, finally received a double lung transplant needed to keep living.

The donor came from Miami, Florida and the operation was done in mid-October. Etheridge was sent to the emergency room in early October and given 7-10 days to live until the donor finally came in.

Up to those seemingly final days, a benefit concert was thrown for Etheridge as well as several auctions. His nephew, Rocky, relayed a message to all those who helped him Monday morning.

"(Eddie) really wanted me to be able to thank the people who helped him maintain long enough to get to where he is at," Rocky said. "Backwoods Outdoors has been great for us, Lawn Performance can't say enough about them. Brian along with Chris Ship in Sylvester. We couldn't have done it without the help of the community."

Eddie, 58, had been fighting against the lung disease for over three years
