Underground gas leak stopped by Piedmont Natural Gas

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Firefighters in Wilmington were able to stop a natural gas leak Monday afternoon within an hour of it being reported.

According to officials, an underground leak near the intersection of 17th and Market Streets caused several homes to be evacuated while crews worked to stop the gas.

Piedmont Natural Gas stopped the leak from a small service line around 2:00 p.m.

No one was injured during the incident and all roads have re-opened to traffic.
