GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

In a 5-2 vote, with one person abstaining, the Guntersville City Council passed an ordinance Monday that will create the city's first entertainment district.

The approved plan allows the district to run on a three day-per-week schedule. It will run from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and from 2:30 to 10 p.m. Saturdays.

The original proposal was first introduced in August, but it failed by one vote. The mayor said several people called her office and requested the city to reconsider.

The ordinance will go into effect Jan. 1.
