Active and retired military members honored at Savannah Christian

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Active and reserve military units were honored at Savannah Christian Church on Sunday.

Members of Savannah Christian held their annual "Massing of the Colors" event to honor members of the military, both past and present.

Brigadier General Peter Jones, Deputy Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division was the guest speaker.

The colorful presentation of flags is a patriotic ceremony that is filled with pageantry and moving reminders of sacrifice and service.

"It is truly a celebration of not just our flag, but the representatives that bear our flag at home and abroad." said Col. John Thompson, Cheif of Staff 3rd ID.

The Third Infantry Division Brass Quintet performed taps to close out the ceremony.

The massing of the colors is sponsored each year by the Savannah Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.
