PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's the first of its kind in northwest Ohio, a freestanding, hospital-quality, emergency room.

The facility opens Monday in Perrysburg and is operated by Mercy Health Partners.

This is a new trend in the medical profession.

300 ERs, like the Mercy Medical Center in Perrysburg, can be found around the country.

"The reason being is we can bring the services into the community and provide them in a substantially lower investment cost than building an entire hospital," said Chris Golliver, M.D. of the center.

Mercy CEO/President Andrea Price says the center should compare favorably with traditional ERs.

"It shouldn't affect your medical costs any more than you normally would pay when you go to the emergency room," said Ms. Price.

The facility is designed to treat all patients in need of emergency care.

That includes those suffering everything from strokes to heart attacks.

"We offer hospital emergency services. If you require admission, then we work with you to get you admitted to the appropriate hospital," said Dr. Golliver.

Diagnostic services, such as MRI and ultrasound, are also offered here.

Perrysburg was chosen for the ER because there are no other facilities in Northern Wood County offering emergency services.

"We're trying to make the patient the center of attention here," said Dr. Golliver.
