ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Investigators with the Atlanta Fire Department confirm a fire that killed local pastor Rev. Arthur Allen last week started in a laundry room.

According to Fire Rescue department spokeswoman Janet Ward, the fire appears to be accidental.

The exact cause of the blaze hasn't been determined.

The fire started shortly before noon Oct. 28, in the bottom floor of an apartment on Lookout Avenue in Northwest Atlanta. Allen died at the hospital that afternoon.

In 2002, Allen and four others were convicted of beating boys at his independent church, the House of Prayer. He spent two years in prison as a result of the case.
