ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police made sure kids were safe as they enjoyed some Halloween fun Thursday night.

The department had extra patrols in neighborhoods to protect trick or treaters. They also hosted trick or treaters at the Law Enforcement Center downtown.

Officers say it helps them get to know the people they serve on a daily basis better. Albany Police Officer Calandra Bell said, "It gives the kids a safe environment to come learn something from police officers and not be afraid. It helps increase our relationship with the community."

The department hosts this Halloween event each year.
