WILTON, AR (KSLA) -

An elderly woman spent the night out in the elements in Little River County after crashing her car, but thanks to the perseverance of police, family and volunteers, she's now recovering.

"I think it is a blessing from God," says Little River County Sheriff Gary Gregory. Deputies spent most of the night searching for 75-year-old Nina Hinton, who was last seen around 8 p.m. Wednesday leaving the First Baptist Church in Wilton.

Sherry Hedrix and her neighbor that finally helped those searching home in on  "My neighbor next door knocked on my door and said he thought he heard someone down here yelling for help."

Hedrix says they started walking toward the sound to check it out, "and we looked down the hill And there was the car and he recognized her and he said, 'Nina, is that you?"

It was. The car Hinton was driving had run off the road and run down a small hill at the end of Texarkana Avenue in Wilton. It was not a normal route for Hinton. "She said she thought she was on 234 a block over on her way home from church," recalls Hedrix.

Sheriff Gregory says that put her nearly 4 miles off the road she should have been taking. After the wreck, Hinton tried to walk for help, but fell and hurt her shoulder attempting to climb back up to the roadway.

"She was not sure how long she was on the ground, but she had been on the ground since last night," Gregory says.

Hinton was taken to Little River Memorial Hospital, where family members say she is recovering from her injuries.

"She is well-known around here, and I am glad she is okay," says Hedrix.

The sheriff is grateful, too. "I want to thank God that we have an organization of people and the family that all Came out and worked together to have a positive conclusion to this."

One family member tells KSLA News 12 that Nina Hinton will not be driving at night anymore.
