LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County judge set a trial date for a man accused of using his child as a shield.

Michael Prater was charged with child abuse. He waived his arraignment hearing Thursday morning. The judge set a pretrial hearing for January 2 and a trial date for January 13.

Investigators said Prater used his 5-year-old son as a human shield when agents were trying to arrest him for two felony warrants.
