Albany State names interim President, continues search

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The University System of Georgia has named Kimberly Ballard-Washington to serve as interim president at Albany State University.

Ballard-Washington is assistant vice chancellor for Legal affairs for USG and assistant secretary to the Board of Regents, according to a release by the system.

Ballard-Washington will assume the interim presidency on November 1st, following the departure of current president Everette J. Freeman, who was named as the new president of the Community College of Denver in Denver, Colorado.

The school says the appointment will be temporary until another person will be chosen to serve as interim for a longer period of time.

A native of Montezuma, GA, Ballard-Washington received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia, and later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Southern University School of Law in Houston, TX.

A USG release further says Ballard-Washington practiced law for 15 years and also worked as assistant to the president for legal affairs and Director of Equal Opportunity Programs at Valdosta State University.
