School board members educated Monday night

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

School board members from around south Georgia got a little education Monday night in Leesburg.

The Georgia School Board Association hosted a forum to share information about education issues on the agenda for the general assembly that opens in January.

One proposal would allow voters to choose school superintendents instead of having school boards hire them.

"It's important to work with them and teach them regarding advocacy as much as it is to work with them to teach them parliamentary procedure or anything else in how to govern well, advocating is part of governance," said Angela Palm, Director of Policy and Legislative Services, Georgia School Board Association.

The School Board association's next legislative forum will be Tuesday in Waycross.
