WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -
Worth County Elementary School students are collecting canned goods to combat hunger and for a chance to see the Falcons play in Atlanta. The school is one of more than 90 in the state taking part in the 2013 FALCAN Food Drive.
It's part of the Atlanta Falcons initiative to help local food banks. If Worth County collects the most cans, sixty students will get to see the Falcons play the Washington Redskins in December.
"We're also and more importantly using this as a resource to teach our students about the homelessness that is present here in Southwest Georgia and also the hungry families that are here in Southwest Georgia, so they're really learning a valuable life lesson in terms of helping those that are less fortunate," said Principle Steve Rouse.
They've already collected 4000 pounds of food. The drive ends November 8th.
