NTSB: Pilot in Chula crash made no distress call

CHULA, GA (WALB) -

A pilot killed in a crash this month in south Georgia, did not make any sort of distress call. That's the report coming from investigators.

The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the October 18th crash in Tift County.

Investigators say 39 year old Michael Leadlay of Orlando descended from his cruising altitude before radar and radio contact were lost.

No further communication was received from the pilot before the Piper PA-28 plunged into a field near Chula.

Leadlay was on his way to LaGrange from Merritt Island, Florida.

The crash remains under investigation.
