MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Republican state senator Bryan Taylor says he will not seek re-election to his seat in the 30th district in 2014.

Senator Taylor said the decision not to run again was made because he wants to spend more time with his family. He and his wife are expecting their third child. He said he come to the conclusion with his wife, Jessica, during the middle of last week.

"God is leading us in a direction not to run for reelection in 2014" Taylor said.

Taylor stepped down from former governor Bob Riley's staff, where he served as Policy Director and Legal Counsel, so he could seek the seat in 2010.

Taylor was elected to 2010 in a district that had been held by a Democrat, Sen. Wendell Mitchell, for nearly 30 years.

District 30 covers Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes and Pike counties.

Taylor said he was most of proud of the work he did to pass new ethics laws during a December 2010 Special Session.

Taylor's decision follows a decision by Suzelle Josey, the former campaign spokeswoman for Chief Justice Roy Moore's campaign, to run in the GOP Primary for the senate seat next year.
