ST. STEPHEN, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say they have captured a 36-year-old man wanted for abducting a mother and daughter Monday morning in St. Stephen.

Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael Johnson says Telly McClam was captured near railroad tracks in Lane, SC. Johnson says McClam possibly walked about five miles from where authorities had been originally searching for him in Salters in Williamsburg County.

Johnson says McClam did have a weapon when he was found but surrendered without incident.

According to Johnson, McClam will first be transported to the Berkeley County where he currently has active warrants for kidnapping. According to Berkeley County Records, McClam is also on the sex offender registry for a conviction in 1999.

Johnson says the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible charge of criminal sexual conduct that may have occurred in the county. McClam will be taken back to Williamsburg County to face charges of burglary and criminal sexual conduct says Johnson.

According to St. Stephen Police Chief John Waters, 36-year-old Deandrene McHoney and her daughter, 17-year-old LeAndre Shalaunti Deare, were found safe after McClam crashed his car and fled on foot Monday afternoon in the area of Council Road.

Captain Rick Ollic with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says McClam was considered armed and dangerous. Police K-9 units and the sheriff's office helicopter were used in the search.

An AMBER Alert was issued Monday morning after a woman and her daughter were taken from the homes in St. Stephen by McClam, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

SLED says the AMBER Alert has been canceled, as both victims were safely recovered.

Authorities say McClam was driving a blue 2000 Hyundai Accent, license plate DII 404. He left a home on 215 Grass Lane in St. Stephen and was traveling towards Hwy. 52.

According to police, McClam was arrested in April 2012 after ramming the woman's car and kidnapping her. Chief Waters said McClam was dating the victim at the time of the incident.

Waters said in that incident, McClam later released the woman in Williamsburg County. He was charged with attempted murder, malicious injury to property and kidnapping. The charges were later dropped. McClam also previously served jail time on burglary charges.

Waters said McClam and the victim were recently dating until she left McClam's home with her daughter on Thursday.
