COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) -

A total of eight people have been taken into custody following the shooting death of a 19-year-old man in Covington.

Initially, six people were arrested in connection with the murder, including two juveniles. On Thursday, police arrested two more adult suspects charged with murder.

The shooting was described by Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders as "an ongoing dispute between two groups."

It was reported just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of 17th and Gerrard streets. Upon arrival, police located Desean Peterson suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Peterson was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment where he later died from his injuries.

Peterson was a resident of Covington and attended Holmes High School until November 2012.

Earlier in the week, police arrested Mikyle Holloway, Hassan Abdullah, Reginald Bates, Eugene Smith and two juveniles in connection with the shooting. On Thursday, James Young and Jamell Darden were also arrested.

During a press conference Wednesday morning, Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders called the incident a result of "an ongoing dispute between two groups."

Abdullah, Smith, Bates, Young and Darden have been charged with murder. Holloway has been charged with tampering with evidence. Sanders said he's working to have the two juveniles tried as adults.

According to The River City News, Peterson played football and was the prom king. Following news of Peterson's death, several messages were posted on social media with #RipSeanP.

Dozens remembered the teen during a vigil at the scene of the shooting Wednesday evening.

Holloway, Adbullah, Bates and Smith also appeared in Kenton County Court Wednesday for arraignment. Young and Darden are due in court on Friday.
