WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Police say a man shot in the neck early Sunday morning is in stable condition.

According to officials, officers with the Wilmington Police Department were called to reports of shots fired on Vance Street, just off Shipyard Blvd., around 3:45 Sunday morning.

The victim, who was reportedly shot in the neck, was the person who called 911. He told officials he was walking along Vance Street when the shooter yelled obscenities and then shot him.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. His name has not been released.

Police say the suspect is a man in his 20s with short hair. He was wearing a red jacket and carrying a dark colored gun at the time of the shooting.

Police believe they know who was involved in the shooting but are not ready to release details to the media as the investigation is ongoing.
