THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A former Chief Deputy for the Thomas County Sheriff's Office was killed in a house fire Thursday night.

The Thomas County Sheriff's Office says firefighters were called to the home of 85-year-old Former Chief Deputy Walter Hadley off Highway 319 N around 7:30pm Thursday.

Authorities say Hadley was home alone and there was substantial damage to the house.

He worked for the Thomas County Sheriff's Office from 1967- 2010.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but they believe it was accidental.  They do not suspect arson.
