ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Folks gathered at Albany State this evening to say farewell to University President Everette Freeman.

Dr. Freeman accepted the job as President at the community college of Denver in Colorado.

Members of the ASU community who showed up to honor Freeman say he did a lot to help Albany State grow.

"It's a testament to the leadership he's exhibited here at ASU and it's a good way to bid farewell to someone who has meant so much to this university," said Greg Hylick, Interim Chairman, ASU foundation.

President Freeman's last day at Albany State is October 31st.
