ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An author and activist for racial equality says disparity continues in the American educational system.

Michael Wenger, of the Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education talked with Dougherty County students at the Albany Civic Center about race in schools.  The open forum also focused on discrimination that some believe still exists nearly 50 years after the Civil Rights movement.

"What we have to do is recognize that we still have racism in the society, but it's not about blame.  It's about how do we work together to create a more equitable society," said Michael Wenger, Author & Speaker.

Wenger said the majority of the nation's population will be non-white by 2042, and said ongoing racial disparity will harm future economic development.

Wenger also said most discrimination is unconscious and says awareness is the only solution.
