    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Thronateeska Heritage Center will host a book signing by local author Frank A. Gossett, Sr. Mr. Gossett at Thronateeska's Science Museum from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. today.

Gossett's latest book– The Dixie Highway In Southwest Georgia, covers the complete story of the making of the Dixie Highway though Southwest Georgia, from the inception of the project, through the official dedication in October 1915.

This factual story is taken from a compilation of newspaper articles from the Southwest Georgia cities through which the Dixie Highway traversed. In addition to The Dixie Highway, Frank has written other books documenting Albany and Southwest Georgia's history. 

Gossett will be on hand to personalize books purchased at Thronateeska's gift shop. The book sells for $14.50 plus tax. Thronateeska members receive a 10% discount.

Thronateeska Heritage Center is located at 100 West Roosevelt Avenue. The museums are open Thursday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Office hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Thronateeska Heritage Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization located at 100 West Roosevelt Avenue, Albany, Georgia. Facilities include the History Museum, Wetherbee Planetarium, Science Museum, and Archives. Admission is free to the History & Science Museum. Annual Memberships are available.
