WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Residents living in Courtney Pines are facing a coyote scare.

Amanda Smith, who lives between Gordon and Murrayville Roads, said her cat disappeared Saturday night and believes coyotes are to blame. Smith thinks the coyote ate her pet.

Smith said she heard a pack of coyotes outside of her home Sunday night and then actually saw one in her neighborhood.

The concerned resident said the only advice wildlife authorities have, is to shoot the coyotes in open season.

"My greatest fear is that my kids will go out at night to get something from the car and then they will get attacked by a coyote," said Smith. "They're small and can't defend themselves."
