ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Credit card theft is a problem year round, but with the holiday season right around the corner some thieves are trying to get your information.

Whether you are shopping online or in stores, you are at risk of getting your card stolen.

When you are in stores, be aware of your surroundings in case someone tries to lean over your shoulder and snap a picture of your card.

After you use your card make sure it is in a safe place.

"Always protect your card physically in your wallet or in some manner. And most of all be aware of your surroundings. Who is around you and what they're doing that's the most important thing," said Irma Whitten CEO of Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

While shopping this holiday season one technique you could try to prevent credit card theft is to only use one credit card as you shop from store to store.
