BACON CO., GA (WTOC) -
An off-campus fight between high school students last week is now a criminal
investigation with the Bacon County Sheriff's Office.
WTOC received a video of the fight. Superintendent Dr. Laine Reichert told
WTOC that not everyone involved was a Bacon County High School student.
However, parents at Friday night's football game against Benedict told WTOC
news that several Bacon County High School football players were suspended for
the game because of an off-campus incident.
Many parents told WTOC that that they agree with a criminal investigation
looking into the incident. One parent said that because it was an off-campus
incident, she doesn't think the players should have had to sit the game out.
However, some parents feel like the punishment wasn't severe enough.
"I think the school should have gotten involved and each player no matter
how good they are whether we got to win this season or not. They should have
been kicked off the team," said a father of three students at Bacon County High
School. He didn't want to show his face to protect them, but he says kids need
to learn the consequences of their actions.
The superintendent of Bacon County Schools told WTOC this was an off campus
incident and not everyone involved was from Bacon County High School.
As of this morning it is now an active criminal investigation and neither
the board of education nor the sheriff's office can comment.
However, the superintendent told the Alma
incident should be a lesson to students that their actions have consequences
and that issues are not always their battle to fight."
Some parents feel that since it was an
off campus incident, the school shouldn't have gotten involved, but many other
parents feel like more should be done.
"It's not Bacon County. Our
county is better than that. I think everyone here knows that and I think for
them to jump in like that. It's no better than cyber bullying," said the
