ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

The Supreme Court of Georgia has reversed the conviction and prison sentence handed down to a former Nashville Police officer.

James Edwin Watson was arrested in 2009 for solicitation of sodomy from a 17-year-old boy and violating his oath of office.

In March 2011, a jury convicted him and he was sentenced to five years, to serve two in prison and the balance on probation with certain conditions. His motion for new trial was denied, and Watson then appealed to the state Supreme Court.

The High Court ruled that the evidence was not sufficient in showing the proposed sexual acts were to be performed in public, in exchange for money or anything of commercial value, by force, or by one legally incapable of consenting to such acts.

Both the conviction and the sentence were overturned including the indictment charging Watson with violating his oath of office.
