ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Friday, October 18, 2013 is National Mammography Day.

The Phoebe Carlton Breast Health Center is encouraging women, 40 and over to get screened. The breast health center says early detection can saves lives. Friday is set aside to tell friends and family to have a mammogram.

"Even though it's breast cancer awareness this is mammography awareness. Have your mammogram so that you get screened and look for that early detection and know that everything is okay," said Linda Whitten.

The Phoebe Carlton Breast Health Center screens over 12,000 patients a year and over 1,000 a month for breast cancer.
