Man shot in the knee during motel robbery

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Detectives continue to search for a gunman who robbed four men overnight at an east Albany motel and shot one of them in the knee.

It's the latest in a string of crimes on the city's east side and it comes during one of the busiest weekends of the year for Albany.

It was in a second floor room at the Econo Lodge on East Oglethorpe Boulevard where four Hispanic men heard a knock at the door around midnight.

When they answered, a man pulled a gun and demanded money. Before leaving he fired a shot into the motel room striking Marin Zavala in the knee.

He was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, the shooter got away.

This incident is the latest in a string of armed robberies in Albany. Just this week a man robbed the Subway along the same stretch of East Oglethorpe.

It's not clear if the men were targeted, but it comes at a time when most of the hotels and motels in the city are booked for Albany State's homecoming.

Police say they don't want visitors to be alarmed, but ask everyone to be vigilant.

Police are trying to track down the shooter and determine if he's guy behind other recent crimes.
