Teacher indicted on molestation charges loses certificate

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A former Dougherty County Schools teacher of the year finalist indicted for child molestation has had his teaching credentials revoked by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Phillip Burns, 28, was indicted last week for child molestation and felony reckless conduct because he was HIV positive when he was accused of sex crimes against a 15 year old boy.

Prosecutors say Burns did not target any elementary school students he taught.

The PSC contacted WALB today wanting to let parents know that Burns' teaching certificate was revoked as of April 11, so he won't be allowed to teach in any Georgia school.
