Cub Scouts honor WWII veteran

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Cub Scouts in Cordele are honoring a veteran by dedicating a legacy for a community service project.

Cecil Patterson is 93 years old and the scouts are dear to his heart.
Pack 14's Cub Master wanted to instill respect in his Scouts by presenting Patterson with a plaque stating the flagpole at the Scout Center is dedicated to him for his patriotism and loyalty to the community.
Patterson served in World War II, wondering as a young man if he would make it home. Patterson said he was overcome by the gesture.

"It was a surprise to me after world war 2 that I would ever be back in the states. I feel proud of everybody, I love everybody," said WWII veteran Cecil Pat Patterson.

"We decided it would be a great honor if we could dedicate the flagpole to him; that way it would be around for a lot longer than 33 years," said Assistant Cub Master Butch Malone.

Pat Patterson purchased the flagpole and the first flag that flew at the center.
