ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Depending on where you live, Columbus Day may be a paid day off or just another Monday.

According to Pew Research Center, Columbus Day is only celebrated by 23 states (plus the District of Columbia), giving their workers a paid holiday for the date.

It's an official federal holiday, so that means federal offices are closed, and so are banks and the bond market. The stock markets, however, stay open.

The research center notes that it was nearly 100 years ago when Colorado became the first state to designate Columbus Day as a state holiday.
