ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A system update is causing problems for people who are enrolled in SNAP, or the food stamp program.

Representatives of two stores here in Albany say customers have experienced problems while trying to use their EBT cards to shop. Some stores, including Dollar Tree, have posted signs outside to alert customers of the inconvenience.

Xerox is the vendor for the EBT system for many states. In a statement from the company, representatives say during a routine test of their back up systems today the system experienced a temporary shutdown.

While the system is up, people in 17 states are having problems using their cards. They say this is not related to the government shutdown and are working to fix the problem.
