ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The American Red Cross has scholarships available for people to enroll in their Nurse Assistant Training, offering a ready job training opportunity for people seeking a career.

The United Way is providing 8 scholarships to pay 500 dollars of the 800 tuition cost for the Red Cross' Nurse Assistant Training program.  Nurses assistant's are in high demand. The students do three weeks of training and three weeks of clinicals in the field....and then can get started.  Red Cross officials say it's an opportunity to move up for better employment.

"Absolutely. [It's] a chance for them to get a job without the GED or high school diploma. We do background checks and we do have to have people come and fill out the paperwork necessary and that sort of thing. But it's really a way for somebody to turn their life around," said American Red Cross Flint River Chapter Exec. Director Lara Gill.

Orientations for the Nurse Assistant Training will be held at the American Red Cross Albany headquarters on October 15th and October 23rd.

You can get more information about the program by calling 436-4845.
