Valdosta teen's leg crushed by train

Valdosta Police have confirmed that a 16 year old boy was hit by a train Thursday night.

Officials say it happened just before 8:30 p.m. on the 300 block of South Forest Street.

First responders found the boy with a severe injury to his right leg. He was taken to South Georgia Medical Center and then later taken to Shands Medical Center.

According to a report, witnesses at the scene said the train was stopped on the tracks, and the victim tried to crawl under the train to get to the other side of the tracks. The train then started moving, and the boy, who was dragging a bicycle, could not get out from under the train in time, and his leg was run over by one of the wheels.

His name was not released and his condition was not known Friday morning.
