Panthers looking for local talent at open tryouts

The Albany Panthers are looking to replace several key players from their team's core.

Luckily, the team is surrounded by a hotbed of football talent.

General manager Will Carter and head coach Lucious Davis are holding open tryouts this Saturday at Albany High's practice field.

Those trying out will do several combine and one on one drills, and can earn a team contract.

Carter says they aren't looking for benchwarmers or practice squad players during the tryout either.

"We've always been fortunate in the past to sign guys from open workouts that have helped our ball club in the past, like Antwontis Cutts and Chauncey Debose," Carter says. "This is an opportunity for kids in Sylvester and Tifton to come out here, showcase their talents, and come out and help our ballclub."

The tryouts begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, with registration at noon.

The cost is $40 in advance and $50 on Saturday.
