Crisp County wins Region 1-AAAA softball title

The Crisp County Cougars are the Region 1-AAAA champions, after pulling away from Worth County 8-2 in the title game.

The Lady Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2.

In the sixth, pitcher Meagan Coleman pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Lady Rams at bay.

Worth County loaded the bases with one out in the inning, but Coleman struck out the final two batters to end the threat.

Crisp scored two more insurance runs in the sixth to push the lead to 8-2.

Worth County beat Cairo, 19-11, in the early game to earn a spot in the championship game.

The Lady Rams will now host a state playoff series as Region 1-AAAA's number two seed.

Cairo is the three seed and Monroe will be the fourth seed.
