FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man who fled a middle Georgia courthouse and stole a patrol car has been rearrested.
GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang says 36-year-old Jeffrey Keith Sligh, of Jackson, had just been sentenced to a 20-year prison term for burglary Wednesday morning when he ran from the court and drove away.
Authorities say Sligh escaped while deputies were trying to take him into custody and wrecked his own car shortly after leaving the courthouse. Officials say Sligh then stole a patrol car and led sheriff's officials on a chase that ended on an Interstate 75 entrance ramp where he was taken into custody.
Lang says shots were fired during the pursuit, but there were no reported injuries.
Sligh is being held in the Monroe County jail.
