CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The Department of Public Safety at Coastal Carolina University believes they've arrested three people responsible for the robbery at a residence hall on October 8.

The police department released this statement to students via email Friday night, three days after the crime:

Police arrested Chriwanta Cyntonio Bryant of Conway this morning at his residence, and Bennie Lee Bright and Jaquan Havielle Walker this afternoon during a traffic stop in Conway.  Horry County Police Department, Conway Police and the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force assisted. All three suspects were booked at the J. Rueben Long Detention Center and will be held pending arraignment on the following charges: burglary first degree, 2 counts of kidnapping, armed robbery, and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Bryant is also held on the charge of simple possession of marijuana.

The suspects are not students at CCU.

When police were still searching for suspects earlier in the week, they believed this incident and a home invasion that occurred off-campus last week were both drug-related.

According to a Facebook post from the CCU Department of Public Safety, the suspects were seen leaving the area after the robbery, which occurred at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"Police believe there is no immediate danger to the CCU community at this time," the post states.

A campus-wide emergency "CCU Alert" was not sent out because police saw surveillance video showing the suspects off campus, so students were not in immediate danger.
