ASHBURN, GA (WALB) -

Another south Georgia county is certified as storm ready.

To earn the designation, a county must develop a storm ready a plan and meet the requirements set by the national weather service.

Turner County leaders say they're proud they earned the stamp of approval and they feel more prepared than ever to protect people about severe weather.

"It just gives us a program to go by multiple alter systems multiple redundant backup systems. If one system is down we have another system and then another system. To let our public know and our public safety know that if we have some hazardous weather coming, but we are real excited about it," said Jason Lawson Turner County 911 Director.

The county received their certificate of approval this afternoon via email.  Because of the government shutdown, a National Weather Service representative from Tallahassee could not attend tonight's county commission meeting as scheduled.
