ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new campaign called Cancer Stomp has raised $13, 000 for the Cancer Coalition for South Georgia.

The funds will help support cancer screening for people in Dougherty and surrounding counties. Every year the Coalition funds about 800 Cancer screenings. The campaign ran for about six weeks in Albany.

About 30 businesses and a dozen civic groups participated. Coordinators say the money all stays here in South Georgia.

"Therefore people that participate in these fundraising campaigns can be assured that they are saving lives of their potential family members, friends neighbors, all of the resources stay in this area.," says CEO Diane Fletcher.

The next Cancer Stomp will be held in Miller County. For more information or to hold a Cancer Stomp in your area, you can call the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia. That number is 229-312-1701.
