Homeschoolers put on walking shoes to combat leukemia

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia homeschoolers put on their walking shoes tonight to raise money to help fight leukemia.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society no longer sponsors a Light the Night fundraiser in Albany as they did in years past, so the Southwest Georgia Home School Association Key Club decided to do it.

Students and their parents held a memorial service and walked around the Darton College track tonight.

"My sister died of leukemia in 2007, so we've been doing this for a while," said Lydia Twiggs.

"The reason I'm doing this is to bring hope for people who've gone through this," said John Harden.
