ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For some, a for sale sign planted in front of their home marks a new beginning but for others it could mean the end if they are facing foreclosure. That's why 15 different organizations across Southwest Georgia are coming together for the first "Call in to connect", a telethon style counseling session that gives free advice for people facing difficult financial situations.

"You know, housing with unemployment, with the economic downturn, people were just struggling to make mortgage payments nab we just felt like housing was a big issue," CEO of Albany Community Together Selma Johnson said.

It's an issue they see on a daily basis. "People always have issues, well my landlord didn't fix this or I didn't pay for this so the landlord is going to kick me out, so I only have 3 days or I have to find somewhere else to be so where can I go, where can I get help," Southwest Georgia regional commission planner Kerrie Davis said.

Call in to connect will have certified counselors available that will work with clients to generate a plan that could ease the out of credit issues, help with first time home buyers and assist those with fair housing concerns. A project Davis feels will help bring people out even those who don't feel comfortable having those face-to-face interactions.

"We're really excited to off this. Sometimes people are reluctant to come in when dealing with foreclosures so this gives them the opportunity to call instead of having to physically be here," Davis said.

A way to get relief with a phone call.
