IRWIN CO., GA (WALB) -

Irwin County Elementary School celebrated Pre-K week with a special guest. Ocilla Police officer Wallace Parish read several books to pre-schoolers this morning.

Community leaders have visited the school each day this week. The school's celebration focuses on literacy. Pre-K teachers say it's important for community leaders to interact with students to set good examples.

"It means that they still have a passion for our kids and that education is still important to them," said Pre-K Teacher Abby Clayton.

"As law enforcement anyways is to help show them that we are not bad people. That they can trust us, if they need us they can come to us," said Wallace Parish with the Ocilla Police Department.

This is the first time that Irwin County Elementary has celebrated Pre-K Week.
