Downtown Albany gets a new monument

There's a new monument in downtown Albany honoring the man who founded the city. Folks gathered at the Welcome Center on Front Street this afternoon for the unveiling of the Nelson Tift bust.

Artist Gayla Renee crafted it out of bronze for free to provide an interesting way for visitors to learn more about Albany's history.

"It's a good feeling, I like that I'm able to be part of reminding Albany of their history and be asked to do a man who was such a huge part of building, is such an honor," said Gayla Renee, artist.

Tift founded Albany in 1836. He was businessman and judge who was also elected to the state House and Congress. Albany leaders say they're working to bring more artwork to downtown.
