ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Special furry friends brought smiles to students at one Dougherty elementary school Wednesday.

Paws Patrol visited International Studies Elementary. These dogs and one cat are specially trained to visit schools, nursing homes and hospitals to cheer up those they meet. Third graders recently read the book "Because of Winn-Dixie" which inspired them to have an up close encounter with well trained pets.

"All of these animals have been certified in training and know certain commands and have to be certified every 2 years," said Nancy Hillsman with Paws Patrol.
