ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Dougherty county pre-schoolers linked up today to celebrate Pre-K week.

Students at Sylvandale Elementary held hands and made chains with their names on them to show their support for early education. Teachers released balloons and community leaders and parents read to the students earlier in the day. Pre-K directors say reading is a major part of Pre-K and they encourage volunteers to come read to the students.

"This entire month we will be inviting people to come into the school to read," said Director of Pre-K Programs Gloria Kendall. "All of the teachers have sent out notices or will be sending out notices and we are trying to get as many readers this month as we can."

Pre-K week is sponsored by the non-profit Voices for Georgia's children. For more information on how you can be a volunteer reader call Sylvandale Elementary at 431-1290. The school is located on 1520 Cordell Avenue, Albany, Ga.
