LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Lee County Sheriff's Office officials want you to look at the surveillance video of a violent armed robber, who stuck up the Zelmo's Citgo on 82 west just north of the Albany Mall.

Investigators say they think this robber may have sat out the store beside that busy road for two days, scouting out the store before robbing it.

The armed robber was about 5-feet-5 to 5-feet-9 inches tall, wearing a red hat or ski mask, and blue long sleeve shirt, with a back pack on his back. He entered the Citgo about 9:15 Tuesday night, pointing a pistol.

The frightened clerk first tried to hide under the counter, and then runs back and forth behind the merchandise, the robber keeping the gun aimed at her all the time, demanding she open the cash register. She finally does and the gunman rifles the cash drawer, even reaching over the counter to grab money stashed under that cash drawer.

After getting the cash, he runs north across the parking lot. Investigators say they believe the robber had staked out the store for two days, sitting right beside the busy highway out front.

"There was a subject sitting across the street up on a rock, and we got the information later. Which is good we got the information. It gives us some idea what was going on at the time, and some Intel what we need to do next time," said Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

Investigators say they have some leads, but are asking people for information about this robbery or the man sitting outside the store.
