ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany will be one of 12 cities recognized as a great place for recreation in the south. The editors of ConventionSouth Magazine included Albany among their 2014 list of the South's Surprising Recreational Havens For Groups.

Officials with the Convention and Visitors Bureau say people planning events look for unique places to hold their gatherings. Now more of them will consider Albany.

They say Albany has hiking,  a unique downtown, and eateries, plus the Flint river.

"We have great eating, shopping, the Flint, eateries, hiking, walking trails so we have the whole gammet of recreational activities," says Rashelle Beasley, the Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

The list will appear in the November Issue of the ConventionSouth Magazine. Other cities listed include Auburn, Alabama, Plano, Texas, and Pinehurst, North Carolina.
