Albany Toys for Tots kicks off

Albany Salvation Army officials say they expect an increased need this holiday season.

The U-S Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots campaign officially kicked off Tuesday at the base.

Marines will work with the Albany Salvation Army to provide toys for less fortunate children.

In 2012 they distributed 15,000 toys in the Albany area.

The Marines say they are ready to deliver more this year, with the community's help.

Albany Toys For Tots Coordinator Gunnery Sergeant Ernest Thompson said "A shiny new toy sends a message to a needy child that someone cares. That he or she hasn't been forgotten."

Albany Salvation Army Commander Major Kelly English said "The numbers are up. So we're just anticipating that for Christmas the trend is going to be the same."

Families can sign up at the Albany Salvation Army on West Second Avenue October 22nd through October 25th.  There will also be a make up date on November 4th.

South Georgians are asked to look for collection boxes and give a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need.
